'After the election of Abraham Lincoln as president in November 1860, unofficial flags consisting of a single star on
a solid background began appearing across the South. As each star on the U.S. flag signified a state, a single star indicated
that the state had withdrawn (or planned to withdraw) from the Union, which would make it a sovereign power. The best known
of the single-star flags was the Bonnie Blue flag. The flag consisted of a solid blue flag, with a large white star in the
center. Tradition holds that the Bonnie Blue flag was flown in Georgia during the early months of 1861, although no evidence
has been found to support this claim. Better documented is a flag of the same design, but with a red star on a solid white
background. Several accounts mention such a flag being flown in Augusta and Milledgeville in January 1861.'
'If we had it to do over, would we send an army into Afghanistan to build a nation? Would we invade
Iraq? While these two wars have cost 5,200 dead, a trillion dollars and a divided America facing an endless war, what have
we won? Gen. Stanley McChrystal needs 40,000 to 80,000 more troops, or we risk "mission failure" in Afghanistan.
At present casualty rates – October was the worst month of the war – thousands more Americans will die before
we see any light at the end of this tunnel, if ever we do.'
Buchanan, a true patriot (and the man who drew
me into political activism), points to the folly of imperialism. While I can not agree with Pat on every single issue (specifically
in his admiration of Hamilton and protectionist policies), we certainly see eye-to-eye on dismantling the Empire.
'After secession, Mississippians of the six coastal counties reverted to a flag flown over the short-lived
Republic of Florida back in 1810. The Republic of Florida flag depicted a single white star on a blue field. This flag was
the "Bonnie Blue Flag" referred to in a popular marching song. In a couple of weeks however, on January 26, 1861, the Mississippi secession convention adopted an official
flag for the Sovereign Republic of Mississippi. Referred to as "The Magnolia Flag" the flag depicted a Magnolia
tree on a white field, sometimes with a red fringe or bar on the fly. This flag also incorporated the Bonnie Blue image in
the canton corner. Though Mississippi flew the flags of the Confederate States of America from 1861 to 1865, the Magnolia
Flag actually remained the "official" flag for 33 years.'
An Opportunity for the Oath Keepers: End the Occupation
Aren't you sick of the police state? I am. Here is tons of great material with lots of pictures and
information about the militarisation of the police and the standard sort of tyranny we currently live under
in the United States, the so-called 'land of the free'.
Formerly Southron neighbourhoods and towns throughout many parts of Dixie are being transformed by a flood
of Yankees. They come for the 'cheap real estate' (our homeland) and give us high taxes, zoning regulations, increased 'law
enforcement' and all the other blessings of Yankee civilization. Some of us are sick and tired of their blessings!
Look at how the Feds treat the nations they conquer
For a close look at how terribly the US Federal Government treats the nations of people it conquers (which
has been doing at a rapidly increasing rate lately) one only has to look at the reservations where the Feds put the conquered
American Indian nations. This article gives us a look at what a disaster the Feds' policies regarding the Indians has been.
Keep in mind that these are nations of people the Feds have basically been in total control of for at least a century.
Surely few would claim that DC intervention has certainly been a blessing for the Indians.
'Katy resident Tim Graney has announced his candidacy for the 14th Congressional District, challenging
maverick Republican incumbent Ron Paul.... Graney went on to say that Paul’s Libertarian leanings are not consistent
with the beliefs of residents in the district. “I am a fiscal conservative, but I do not support Ron Paul’s weak
foreign policy views, nor do I support his do whatever you want ultra-Libertarian views that conflict with our American values,”
Graney said.'
Notice that Graney's two main objections to Ron Pauls are his belief in liberty and his anti-imperialism.
Isn't it funny how 'American values' translates as imperialism to Paul's challenger? No doubt Graney would be a run-of-the-mill
imperialist ready to go along with the Congressional gang in regulating us to death and occupying as many foreign countries
as possible. No thanks, Graney! We have enough warmongers who hate liberty in Congress already.
'"The ladies of Broward's Neck", a community in Duval County, presented Gov. Madison S. Perry with a flag of their
own design symbolizing Florida's withdrawal from the Union. The flag, never officially adopted, thus was proffered as an emblem
of Florida as a sovereign nation. Governor-elect John Milton presented that flag to the Florida Secession Convention at Tallahassee
in 1861 after signing of the Ordinance of Secession. The stars represent South Carolina, Mississippi and Florida, the first
three states to leave the Union. Mrs. G.E. Ginder, great-niece of one of the ladies of Broward's Neck, in the interview in
the Florida Times-Union in 1961, said the flag was displayed on the rostrum of the House of Representatives at the Capitol
in Tallahassee during the Civil War [sic].'
'Bloody scenes of war have been transformed into granite memories, sacred in their serenity and silence.
Nearly 145 years after the end of the War Between the States, Bell County's two Confederate monuments still stand as testaments
to the men who fought, thanks mostly to women who would not forget.'
'Legislative records show that a "state flag" was not established or recognized until 1861. The constitutional
convention of 1861, which passed the ordinance of secession, adopted a state flag.... This state flag, adopted in 1861, is
said to have been issued to North Carolina regiments of state troops during the summer of 1861 and borne by them throughout
the war. It was the only flag, except the national and Confederate colors, used by North Carolina troops during the Civil
War [sic]. This flag existed until 1885, when the [Federal occupation] Legislature adopted a new model.'
'Bill Potter, of Atlanta, will discuss "The Great Spiritual Revival in the Confederate Armies"
at the meeting of the Maj. Gen. Ambrose Ransom Wright Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the private
dining room of the Side Track Bar and Grill, 4027 Washington Road. For information, call John Partridge at (706) 863-7172,
or David Butler at (706) 869-0586, or go to columbiacountyconfederates.com.'
'When South Carolina seceded, this flag flew over the customs house in Charleston and then in various cities around the state
as a symbol of secession itself. This flag was NOT the national flag of an independent South Carolina. It predates the
secession of all the states and of the Confederacy. As such it is an expression of public sentiment at the time. The
crescent, a South Carolina symbol since revolutionary times, is upside down which is said to be a sign of distress. The star
is said to symbolize Southern unity. It then became a South Carolinian Navy flag.'
'Another step has been taken to get a new monument and Confederate soldier statue replacement in front
of the Franklin County Courthouse. All pieces of the original monument and statue were picked up Thursday at two locations
in Rocky Mount and will be transported to the Rock of Ages plant in Graniteville, Vt. There, the pieces will be used by the
company to make a new one as close as possible to the original, said Mike Thurman, Franklin County's director of facilities.'
'Bishop Gassis, who serves in a diocese in the Nuba Mountains, stated that his region is partially occupied
by the state military, after being evacuated by the government forces from Khartoum. He stated that in his region the idea
of secession is popular, and in Nuba people say, "We don't want anything to do with the north." However, he added,
"it's going to be hard because the oil is going to play an important role." The prelate explained that people
from the south claim that the Khartoum authorities are not giving them a "fair share" of the oil. He reiterated,
"It isn't going to be easy if the south want secession."'
Could an Independent Texas Survive Economically? The Facts Say 'Yes'
'Many of those who scoff at the notion of Texas independence do so by trying to paint a portrait of
a trailer-park redneck republic which slides rapidly into Third World status without the many intricate connections to its
sister states fostered by the benevolent government in Washington, D.C.'
'Heritage Day activities may be gone this year from the Elkton Elementary School curriculum, but there
is still much of the town’s past that is being taught. Despite the SOLs which do not include “heritage”
or history for third graders, Elkton Elementary third grade teachers since Jeannie Eye (who retired with much public recognition
in 2005) and Mary Headrick (now the librarian at the J. Frank Hillyard Middle School) have always devoted special time to
Elkton’s history. A five-hour video is in the school’s library showing, in detail, the early dress and hand tools
of the 18th and 19th centuries, recorded by Elktonian Billie Jo Monger. This Monday, the third grade put on a half-hour musical
show on Elkton’s history, once for the students and once for the PTA. And speakers Esther Nizer, Amelia Jones, Vera
Ross, Jim Kite and young Jack Dixon visited classes this fall to give accounts of African American history, Elkton in the
old days, and Confederate history.'
Town officials should not object to Confederate flags
'About two years ago, I was asked by a town representative to remove a confederate flag from the stage
where Silver Creek was performing for an Appomattox Cheerz event. Recently, The Southland Band was also asked by yet another
Town representative to remove their confederate flag during their performance for the same type event.'
United Daughters of the Confederacy to hold convention
'Members of Robert F. Hoke Chapter No. 78 attended the 113th Annual N.C. Division Convention of the
United Daughters of the Confederacy held Oct. 7-10 in Fayetteville. President and Delegate Sue Curtis, 3rd Vice President
and Alternate Trudy Hall and member Sandra Boyer attended meetings and workshops. They were joined by Honorary Associate member
Ed Curtis for a memorial service for deceased members, two banquets, and Bestowal of Military Service Awards for veterans.'
Texas nationalist movement gaining international attention
'While much of America’s mainstream news media continues to scoff at the notion of Texas independence,
journalists from elsewhere around the globe are beginning to recognize that the Texas Nationalist Movement is gaining momentum
in its quest to put the issue of Texas secession before the voters of the state. TNM representatives have been deluged of
late by requests for media interviews, particularly from journalists from overseas. TNM President Daniel Miller has been interviewed
by Iranian television and a request from British TV is in the wings, while stories about the movement have also been featured
in Agence France-Presse, the French version of the AP, and other agencies.'
Elitist pundits and belt-way insiders are lamenting the popular talk of secession on 'mainstream' websites
and specifically they lament the lack of power to control the readers and users of these websites. Apparently it is good fun
for the elites to make fun of the people and dream of dictatorial control.
Today was the SC League of the South's State Convention just outside of Columbia. SLMNews was there
and a video report (with a couple interviews) of the event will be forthcoming!
SLMN continues to grow and become more popular - and we need your help to expand our

Great Southron writer Edgar Allan Poe finally gets proper funeral
'For Edgar Allan Poe, 2009 has been a better year than 1849. After dozens of events in several cities
to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth, he's about to get the grand funeral that a writer of his stature should have received
when he died. One hundred sixty years ago, the beleaguered, impoverished Poe was found, delirious and in distress outside
a Baltimore tavern. He was never coherent enough to explain what had befallen him since leaving Richmond, Va., a week earlier.
He spent four days in a hospital before he died at age 40.'
Union City, TN ceremony to pay tribute to historic Confederate monument
'A special ceremony Sunday will pay tribute to a restored Confederate monument that was erected in 1869.
The 40-foot tall monument has been repainted and cracks in it have been repaired. A memorial service will honor W.B. Sowell,
great-great-grandfather of local Civil War re-enactor Barry Sowell and a soldier in the 48th Tennessee Infantry during the
Civil War. Re-enactors will meet at his grave and march to a Confederate cemetery. The monument is included on the National
Register of Historic Places. According to the Union City Daily Messenger, the ceremony has been arranged by the local Otho
French Strahl Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 176.'
'Amid the increasing unpopularity of the US government's policies on war, economy and civil rights,
a growing number of Americans are advocating the secession and defiance of federal laws, a report says.... "There is
more talk today about nullification (invalidating federal laws) and secession... than any time since 1865," said Kirkpatrick
Sale, whose South Carolina-based Middlebury Institute studies separatism, secession, and self-determination.'
Russia's Putin speaks up about warmongering against Iran
'Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin warned major powers on Wednesday against intimidating Iran and
said talk of sanctions against the Islamic Republic over its nuclear programme was "premature".'
Congratulations
to Mr Putin for being a voice of reason on this issue. We need more sane voices and leaders on this planet countering the DC
line.
Lindsey Graham (aka 'John McCain's personal bag boy') takes a swipe at the great Ron Paul in this video.
Congressman Paul responds to his attack brilliantly. At the root of their dispute is Graham's support for imperialism and
the expansion of Federal intrusion into our lives and the lives of millions of people around the globe. Ron Paul argues the
case for ending the foreign wars and restricting the Federal Government.
Many folks in other (more Leftist) States seem more than willing - even eager - to see Texas leave the Empire.
This is positive news. If a consensus continues to build that Texas should be independent, that would go a long ways towards
ensuring that it'll actually be done. Amazing to think that some of these folks would want to build a wall to separate
Texans from themselves!
'If Texans are split over whether to split, there's no debate from the rest of the
union. "Please go away soon," wrote Californian Eileen Flanagan, who even volunteered to build a fence
to separate the new nation from the U.S.'
American secessionist leader: US could break up fast
'Honestly, it is not going to happen tomorrow. The problems will have to get worse. But all one has
to do is look at the price of gold worldwide to see this is kind of a tremendous voice of lack of confidence in the United
States dollar that suggests that there is a lot of uncertainty out there. Things could change rapidly. Who would have predicted
in 1985 that by 1989 that the six so called satellite countries of the Soviet Union would have rid themselves of their communist
regimes and five of the six would have done so non-violently, and three years later Soviet Union would cease to exist. So
it can happen fast.'
'James Morgan’s father was one of the city’s early mayors. James himself was a wealthy tobacconist
and landowner, and his son-in-law, Colonel Augustus Forsberg, designed Holy Cross Catholic Church and was Lynchburg’s
first city engineer. While the men held prominent positions in the community, it was the women who gave their family history
a little personality.'
'Like a vampire rising from it's grave each night to feed on the privacy rights of Americans, the Federal Bureau of Investigation
is moving forward with programs that drain the life blood from our constitutional liberties. From the wholesale use of informants and provocateurs
to stifle political dissent, to Wi-Fi hacking and viral computer spyware to follow our every move, the FBI has turned massive data-mining
of personal information into a growth industry. In the process they are building the surveillance state long been dreamed
of by American securocrats.'
'The event, which will include an honor guard provided by units of the Sons of Confederate Veterans
in historic costume, is being organized by novelist John Francois, whose great-great-grandfather Victor Jean Francois Contini
Sittig, is buried in the cemetery. He said the small cemetery contains the graves of at least three other Confederate veterans
and he is eager to include their descendants in the ceremony as well.'
'Disgruntled by high taxes, wars in far-away countries, bailouts for fat-cat bankers, a growing number
of Americans are pushing their states to defy federal laws and some are advocating secession.'
Cannon, musket fire salute Confederate soldiers buried in Silver Creek
'Organized by the Gen. Nathan B. Forrest Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 469 of Rome, the afternoon
service was held as a reminder for those in attendance to “remember who you are and where you came from and be proud
of it,” according to past commander Mike Ragland.'
Federal judge affirms ban on Confederate flag in Texas school
Another example of why the US Federal Government needs to be abolished or seceded from immediately... before
they completely ban or destroy every last bit of our cultural heritage in Dixie.
'A federal appeals court has
affirmed a lower decision to dismiss a case by current and former Burleson, Texas, students who sued after school officials
banned them from carrying purses bearing the Confederate battle flag. A federal judge dismissed the case in April 2008. The
5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed that decision in a ruling issued Friday. Two teen girls took the purses to school
in early 2006, according to the lawsuit that asked the school district to clear the girls' student record, acknowledge that
their constitutional rights were violated and pay unspecified damages. Burleson school district officials tried to confiscate
the purses and then sent the girls home when they refused to turn them over.'
Students arrive to find Confederate flag flying at high school
'A Confederate flag was flying at North Gaston High School in Dallas as students arrived for class Thursday
morning. School officials said they will find out who taped the flag to the flag pole overnight. One student said school officials
blocked the hallway closest to the flag pole while workers removed the flag and put up the American flag [sic! - Federal rag]
instead. Some parents and students said they found the act upsetting.'
Taking down the Federal rag of occupation
and putting up our flag of resistance was a nice move by someone. Who ever did it - we salute you! The rag of occupation has
no place in our land. And to the 'upset' parents - please leave Dixie now. We don't want or need you here.
As the Empire lashes out violently against countries on the other side of the planet, Southron
families pay the price. It's Southron boys and girls who do the dying for the Feds' imperial plans. It's time for that to
end, for the Empire to die and for the South (and the occupied foreign countries) to be free.
'More than half
of the U.S. troops killed in Iraq either came from the South or were assigned to military bases in the region, according to
an analysis of Pentagon records. As the U.S. military death toll nears 2,000 deaths since March 2003, the South continues
to bear a heavy toll from the war, said national security analysts. Yesterday, military officials reported the death of a
Marine on Sunday in Ramadi, an insurgent stronghold, bringing the toll to 1,997. The total includes those killed by hostile
fire and those who died from accidents, non-combat injuries, illness or suicide while fighting in Iraq, nearby waters or Kuwait.
Of those, about 55 percent either listed permanent homes or were assigned to military bases in Southern states. "You
would expect that," said John Pike, the director of GlobalSecurity.org, a research group based in Alexandria, Va. "There
is a greater propensity to join (the military) in the South. And, you can't drive very far in the South without running into
an Army base." The South, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, includes Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia,
Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas,
Virginia and West Virginia. Thirty-seven percent of fallen troops listed their permanent residency in the South.'
'NASA plans to launch a powerful missile aimed directly at the South pole of the moon with the goal
of blasting a hole in the lunar surface.'
As if the Feds haven't found enough places on Earth to bomb, now
they are searching space for ripe targets on which to waste our money while blowing stuff up. This is ridiculous. No empire
in history has been this foolish and arrogant. Will the Feds try to put a military base there as well? How about doing a little
nation-building on the lunar surface? Why not one of their infamous 'surges' on the moon as well? I'm sure Robert
Gates would love that. Will John McCain call for the moon to be nuked from the sky? Afterall, if we're going to go in there,
we need to go in there to win, right?
Anti-Feds mini rally in Cayce, SC in front of the 'Southern Patriot Store'
on Thursday October 8 at 4 O'Clock. It will take place in Cayce (about five miles from Columbia the State capitol) at 3018
Charleston Highway (Hwy 321) just off I-26 at Exit 115.
I found this grave-site today in North Augusta, SC of Major Hammond of the SC infantry and signer
of the South Carolina Ordinance of Secession from the Empire.
'A Montana lawsuit filed on Thursday challenges federal authority to regulate guns manufactured and
sold within the state, an argument that would effectively invalidate federal firearm laws in Big Sky Country if adopted by
the courts.'
Supreme Court refuses Confederate flag T-shirt case
Another demonstration of how the US Federal Government is a complete and utter failure and should be abolished
or seceded from...
'A group of high school students in Tennessee has lost a lawsuit aimed at forcing school
administrators to allow them to wear T-shirts to school displaying the Confederate flag. A lawyer for the students had taken
their free speech fight to the US Supreme Court. On Monday the high court dismissed the case, Barr v. LaFon, without comment.
The action stems from a lawsuit challenging a 2005 policy banning images of the Confederate flag at William Blount High School
in Maryville, Tenn.'
It's not 'the Left' or 'the Right'... it's 'the System' that is the problem.
'For two decades
I have been attempting to make Americans aware that the danger to their liberty comes not from foreign adversaries, terrorists,
or criminals, but from prosecutors, who have destroyed law as a shield of the innocent and turned law into a weapon against
the innocent.'
'America’s Founding Fathers were indeed revolutionary, but by no means “crazy.” The
same was true of George Kennan and those who will attend the Abbeville Institute this winter in Charleston, who continue to
explore his vision of devolving, limiting or breaking-up the modern state. There is a big distinction to be made between radicalism
and insanity. And the admittedly radical idea of states’ rights or secession is far more logical than the conventional,
popular habit of pretending we still possess the wealth, will or cultural consensus to maintain and expand the American empire
forever.'
The vine that ate the South: Amazingly useful, health-giving Kudzu
'Kudzu, the fast-growing vine that has gobbled up some 10 million acres in the Southeast, may prove
to be a valuable dietary supplement for metabolic syndrome, a condition that affects 50 million Americans, say researchers
at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).'
'About a dozen members of the Capt. Andrew T. Harllee Camp 2010 chapter from Dillion, S.C., dressed
in Civil War garb, presented a dedication fitting for the time. Rifles were shot, a cannon was fired and taps was played,
as a few friends and family members stood near Townsend's tombstone at the Oak Ridge Cemetery.'
Anti-Feds rally penciled in for Thursday October 8 (we had to change
the date but it is now finalised) at Cayce, SC in front of the 'Southern Patriot Store'... Join the PalmettoPatriot in taking
a stand against the tyranny of the Federal Government!
'In 1862, in the midst of the Civil War, two Confederate battle flags from Tennessee made their way
to Cincinnati, brought here by the Cincinnati soldiers and sailors who captured them as trophies of war and displayed them
so that the whole town could revel in the local boys' victory. And today, Tennessee would like to have them back.'
'Researchers seem to have solved the mystery of what happened to the "Big Red" flag flown
by Citadel cadets when they fired on a ship trying to resupply Fort Sumter three months before the Civil War. The Post and
Courier of Charleston reports a 10-by-7-foot flag with a large white Palmetto tree and a white crescent on a red field has
been located in storage at an Iowa museum. Researchers think it is the same flag that flew over Morris Island when cadets
fired on the supply ship Star of the West, forcing the ship to turn away, in January of 1861.'
